Finding a Good Shiba Inu Rescue

Whether you are looking to give up that Shiba inu that has been part of your family or looking for a Shiba to adopt and make part of your family, finding a good Shiba inu rescue shelter is important to you. While there are probably dozens or even hundreds of dog rescues in your state, finding one that is breed specific and really understands Shibas can be somewhat difficult to find.

Try The Internet

One of the best places to start looking for a good shiba inu rescue shelter is by doing an internet search. Rescues advertise on the Internet for two reasons. First, because they know that most people use the Internet when searching for just about everything and therefore, by having their web page on the Internet people who either want to give up their pet, or adopt a rescue will find them quickly and easily.

Second, because by using the Internet they can actual keep people updated on the Shibas they have for adoption and where they are located.

Keep in mind that because Shibas are not among the most popular owned dogs there may not be a rescue shelter dedicated to just the Shiba inu breed and so you may have to search for small dog breed shelters as well as breed specific shelters or consider going a little further afield.

Determining If The Shelter Is Good

Once you have found a rescue shelter near you, then you are going to want to make sure that this is a good Shiba inu rescue shelter before leaving your pet with them or adopting a pet from them. The best way to make that determination is to visit the rescue shelter and see for yourself how clean and sanitary the conditions are, how the workers or volunteers interact with the dogs in their care and listen to how the people talk about the Shibas. If they are enthusiastic, talk lovingly about the dogs and seem to know the individual personalities of those in their care you have found yourself an excellent rescue shelter run by people who obviously love Shibas.

If on the other hand the shelter seem unsanitary, or the workers and volunteers seem more interested in talking on their cell phones or gossiping in a corner than spending time with their charges, this may not be the shelter for you. You also aren’t going to want to deal with a shelter where the dogs seem merely tolerated or where the workers are eager to push the animals out the door with no thought about whether or not they are ready to go to a new family.

Luckily when it comes to Shiba inu shelters most shelters are going to be good ones that are there to help find these beautiful dogs a forever home because they love the breed and have come to love each dog in their care. Dealing with these shelters will be a wonderful experience and a real joy as the shelter will not only help you to find the perfect dog for your family but, will make themselves available to answer any questions even after you have adopted your new pet.
