PLZZ HELP! How Much Should I Be Paying for a Shiba Inu That Is a FAULT/CREAMY?

I want to buy a shiba inu puppy-9 weeks from a breeder. However it is a fault/creamy. So how much should i be paying for a shiba inu that is a fault?
Guess what? She called in right now and she said her husband wants the pup for 1000 dollars! Wtffff?? What a fraud! Never buy from brooklynshibainus! If u search brooklyn shibainus up in google, she ads alot! She’s such a fraud!
I think she doesn’t even care what kind of a person I am. She keeps rescheduling and i wasted my time! A reputable breeder will give the pup at a decent price for a good home! Thank you everybody!

I have no idea whether the breeder you speak of is a good breeder or not.

What I will tell you is that for GOOD, reputable breeder the price of a pet puppy is the price… it does not go UP because of a fault.. it does not go DOWN because of a fault… it simply is the price.

For example: I had 7 pups. Sold 5 of them as pets (even the 1st pick of 3 long time breeders) All went for $1800. The pick went for that amount… the one with a bit more white than is acceptable went for that amount… the one with not quite as much bone went for that amount.. the one that was a bit too quiet to be a show dog but made a superb family dog went for that amount.

I rarely breed. I never make money when I do. I only breed when I want a puppy to train out of a specific set of parents. I make no apologies for the price… and I have people clamoring for my pups. My response to people who say "You want THAT much for a puppy" is… "You can buy this breed less expensively elsewhere.. you pay for what you get. If you have to quibble about the price, you cannot afford to care for this dog in the manner it deserves." I give them the phone numbers for the local breed rescue.. and tell them about the farmer who breeds them down the road. I know in 7 years I’ll get another phone call saying "I want one of yours this time".

Edit: I’ll echo Bassetnut on this one. My guess is she bought some dogs on limited AKC registrations and decided to breed them anyhow. BLEH!!

    0$.

Pay for any vetting done. You only pay for quality do not give money to people for their mistakes!!!

It was the breeders accident. I would only pay as much as I could comfortable afford, just to get the dog away from that breeder.

Of course any dog that is imported is going to be expensive (to the person who previously responded.)

The dogs of proper coloring are about 1500 – 3000 (and that high end was from a litter of two champions).

Honestly, if you’re not showing the dog, and the parents aren’t outstanding, you should be able to get a good deal. A lot of breeders with pups in that price range will drop the price to about $500 if the dog has a major fault.

As long as the pup is healthy and you’re not going to show it (and you can’t show a creamy dog anyway), you’re still paying for a wonderful animal.

If the dog is not suitable for showing ask if the breeder will reduce the price for a companion animal. If you don’t intend to breed/show the animal what does it matter if it has a color problem? If you do intend to breed/show the animal you should get the best one you can afford. And if the color is off and it has a great pedigree you will still have to pay a good price. If your just looking for a cheap dog go to the pound they have all kinds of colors there.

Negotiate with the breeder – you could lower the price down to mostly cover the vetting fees, food, etc during the dam’s pregnancy, whelping, and care of the puppies. Get your puppy fixed so you won’t have to worry about breeding rights. You can try to get a "companion animal" price, but I doubt you’ll end up getting the puppy for free. I’d count on a couple hundred dollars anyway.

The puppy should be sold at "cost". Basically the vet care. This pup should also be sold with a spay/neuter contract that requires you to spay or neuter the pup when it is of age. If the breeder wants more $ and doesn’t require a spay/neuter contract, he or she is not a reputable breeder.

Even though the pup isn’t show quality, the dog can still be a nice pet.

Look at the registries she uses- they are from AKC champion bloodline but registered with the APA or whatever (not AKC). Of course she’s a backyard breeder, breeding for profit. Not a ‘scam’ per say- but not a ‘real’ breeder.

Sells pups at 7 weeks – bad sign
Registers with sham registries (ACA, NKC and APRI) – bad sign

    Avoid this breeder.
