Just like any other pet, a horse needs lots of care and attention. If they are not tended properly chances are their health will deteriorate and may cause their sudden death. When you care for your horse it does not mean that you’ll only take care of its body you also need to take care of their feet as well as their hooves. The appropriate hoof care must be gives to equines at all times.
To make sure that you can give the best care of your horse’s hooves you need to know the proper hoof care facts as follows:
Firstly, you should make sure that you keep your horse’s hooves clean. You should clean your horse’s hooves both prior to and immediately following a ride. However you could not clean your horse’s hooves properly without any grooming tool such as a hoof pick. It is mandatory that your hooves should be picked daily whether your horses will be out for a ride or just be confined in the stable to avoid being infected with thrush.
Trimming is another hoof care basic routine. Similar to our finger nails hooves also grow recurrently thus it needs to be trimmed on a regular basis. A horse’s hooves will need to be clipped every other month. Just be sure you get the proper training or have your farrier do the trimming so that you do not injure your horse. If you want to personally trim your horse’s hooves then you need proper training and practice to master the skill properly.
Shoeing is another basic requirement for horse hoof health. When horses are working on hard ground, they will need tougher shoes than when they are just lounging around in nature. Either way, your horse needs to be shoed and it needs to be shoed by a professional. Also, these shoes should regularly be changed out. Each time you groom your horse and clean its hooves, check to make sure the shoes are in place properly. Since too loose horse’s shoes can cause injury and damage to your horse’s foot. Lastly do not leave horse’s shoe on your horse’s hooves for so long as it can cause damage to their hooves.
