Where can I get a shiba inu pup in southern california?
I've been looking on the internet for a shiba inu pup,but they're all so very far away.
There are quite a bit of Shiba Inus in California shelters. Maybe there is one in the city that you live in. ![]()

Have you checked petfinder.org?
I saw an ad for one in the Fresno paper the other day, if that's not too far.

The internet is a lousy source to get a dog - it is the modern version of newspaper puppy selling — usually done by irresponsible back yard greeders. You can get great information on the breeds on the internet though as most of the parent breed clubs have websites with some wonderful educational information attached. This is the usefullness of the internet. You can contact the parent club of the breed you desire and get breeder referals of breeders in specific areas — you will still need to do your homework and be able to discern if they are a good, responsible breeder or just another greeder that happened to join the club to advertise and get referals. A responsible breeder of any breed will know and be willing and able to tell you much about the breed - the health issues, the structural and temperamental qualities and issues - they don't breed a lot of litters because they are selective in their breeding so you might have to be put on a waiting list - but it is worth it to have a knowledgeable breeder to mentor and help you throughout the dog's life. There are many all breed kennel clubs in southern California as well as breed specific clubs and participating in these can help you to learn more about the breed as well as make contacts with good breeders. Please don't support irresponsible breeders by purchasing one of their pups - their only reason for breeding is personal gain (i.e. to make a buck) and you get that, a dog created to make some idiot a buck… poor temperament, poor structure, poor breed type and poor health… Use the internet to learn but not to buy as it is a puppy miller/back yard greeder's new cheap advertisement media.

Go to http://www.shibas.org and click on the breeder directory. Shiba Rescue of So CA has alot of young dogs available right now also. Good luck.
