The Search for Shiba Inu Puppies

Although the Shiba inu is more popular in the United States than ever before it is still not considered a popular breed and therefore finding Shiba inu puppies may pose a bit of a challenge for people living in rural communities or states where there is an extremely low number of Shiba inu owners or breeders. This certainly doesn’t mean that you can’t acquire that puppy you are longing for, it simply means that you may have to search a little broader a field.

Start Locally

You of course are going to want to start your search for Shiba inu puppies locally. After all, the closer you are to a puppy, the easier and more possible, paying a visit will be to see if the puppy is healthy and has the right type of personality to fit into you and your families life. So, begin your search for these puppies just as you would if you were looking for a beagle or some other more popular breed. Start with vets, dog trainers and attend some local dog shows and talk to a few people. If there is a breeder or rescue that has Shiba inu puppies available these are the people who will know of them.

Contact Breed Associations

Your next step is to contact local and state Shiba breed associations and forums and clubs. If there are Shiba inu puppies available anywhere in the state someone should be able to help you. If all else fails check with national organizations.

Be Prepare To Wait

When looking for a Shiba inu puppy be prepared to do some waiting. Since these dogs are not in high demand, there are also going to be fewer reputable breeders and those breeders are only going to be breeding on a limited basis and will more than likely have a good size waiting list before they breed in order to ensure that they can find homes for all of their puppies. While this may be frustrating for you it is really for the best as these breeders are trying to ensure that Shiba inu puppies do not end up in rescue shelters but, rather in loving homes.

By getting yourself placed on a breeders waiting list you know that eventually, that puppy will be yours. That gives you plenty of time to get all set up for your new pets arrival and to do some research into training your new Shiba.

Spend the time your waiting joining forums and other Shiba communities and take the time to learn as much additional information as you can about these wonderful little dogs, that way you will be all the more prepared for your puppy’s arrival and will have connected with people that can offer advise should you need it.

While finding Shiba inu puppies may be somewhat more difficult than finding pups of more popular breeds they are certainly out there and with a little determination and patience you can find the right pup for you.
